FKIP UMM International Conference to Study Teacher Professionalism

International events are always organized by the University of Malang (UMM). One of them is the agenda of the Teacher Training and Education Institute (FKIP), the International Conference on Education, Teacher Training and Professional Development (ICE-TPD) last Wednesday (18/8). The theme this time is Global Inspiration of Teacher Professional Development. Supporting the theme, it was attended by four reliable speakers. They are professors. Ph.D. Muchlas Samani, M.Pd (UNESA), Professor Assoc. Tony Loughland (University of New South Wales, Australia), Ph.D. Norhaida Aman (Singapore National Institute of Education) and professor. Ana Mansilla Pérez (University of Murcia, Spain).
ICE-TPD was attended by more than 658 participants consisting of students, teachers, lecturers, and education practitioners. Considering that ICE-TPD was the first international seminar held by FKIP UMM, the participants' enthusiasm was an extraordinary achievement. The Dean of FKIP UMM, Ph.D. Poncojari Wahyono, M.Kes said that the purpose of this schedule was as a means of discussion and cooperation to develop teacher professionalism. So that researchers can share their experiences and knowledge. In addition, it can also be used as a place for the formulation of educational policies.

"We also want this conference to provide interesting discussions that discuss the educational development framework, the latest issues, challenges, theories, and best practices to improve the quality of teachers. Collaboratively synergize to prepare professional teachers," he said.

Meanwhile, in global education, Noraida Aman underlined the importance of teachers' understanding of pedagogical knowledge. Mainly in creating learning in the 21st century. According to him, being a teacher does not only have to understand the material students need to understand. But must know how to convey the material. "So that pedagogical content knowledge is essential and main in developing teacher professionalism," he said.

Strengthening Noraida's explanation, Muchlas Amani explained the importance of technology and collaboration in teacher professionalism. Education must utilize technology to improve its development because nowadays, technology-based skills are needed skills.

"Collaboration of continuous classroom action research or C-NAR (Collaboration Nested Action Research) in preparing teachers in the digital era is essential," Muchlas continued.

In addition, Ana Mansilla Perez specializes in researching strategies for growing teacher professionalism. According to him, this development is closely related to student-oriented teaching practices. Therefore, innovation and inspiration are two key factors to improve the professional qualifications of teachers. Finally, Tony discusses the four principles of an effective teacher professional development plan. From the very beginning of the design process, you need to be on the spot or focus on the problem at hand and then also focus on the student and the collective effort. "In addition, actions need to be coordinated according to the developed theory and implementation," said the teacher's professional learning expert.

It did not stop there. The meeting was continued with three parallel sessions, accommodating nine new doctors from FKIP UMM. The topics presented are also exciting, from Enhancing Indonesian Language Teacher Professionalism in Responding to Globalization, Fostering Social and Personality Competence of Teachers, to Reinforcing Teacher Pedagogic Skills in Answering Global Challenges. Who will include the research results presented at the ICE-TPD in the minutes of the ISBN meeting. In addition, the selected manuscripts will be published in national scientific journals indexed by SINTA. Interestingly, the best manuscripts will be directed to be submitted to scientific journals indexed by Scopus.
