Studying Big Data, FISIP UMM Opens Class B-Sospol

In facing the current and rapid development of the times, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) opened a particular class for the Center of Excellence (CoE). This time, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of UMM held a specific course for the Big Data School of Social Politics (B-Sospol). Followed by dozens of participants, the B-Sospol class has been held since last Monday (27/6) until today.

Director of Program Development and Research of B-Sospol Dr. Salahudin, S.IP, M.Si, MPA, said that the purpose of this class is to prepare superior Human Resources (HR). Mainly in facing the digital era and realizing the UMM program Must Graduate On Time, Definitely Professional (PASTI).

"The presence of this class also seeks to help the industrial world to develop organizations based on big data and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This B-Sospol class will continue to provide innovations so that it can print professionals. That way, they can become a reference for the industrial world as a center for developing superior human resources in the field of data science, "said the Deputy Dean I of FISIP UMM.

The Dean of FISIP UMM, Prof. Dr. Muslimin, M.Si. According to him, the CoE classes that have been provided are intended for students and practitioners. One is the B-Sospol class which seeks to provide a deeper understanding of big data and AI. He also touched on new paradigms and literacy, which were no longer based on just counting, reading, and writing. But it also requires humans to understand data literacy and analyze it.

"Data will certainly be closely related to technology. So we must immediately clean up and learn technology better. It'sIt's not just the hardware, but also how to use and maximize it," he continued.

As he is known, Muslims did not forget to remind that another skill that needs to be possessed is a critical and creative mind. Without both advanced technologies, it would not be significant. Likewise, with collaboration, innovation, and good communication.

In line with this, UMM Vice Chancellor I, Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Sc., assess that many new jobs have sprung up. One of them is data science. Academics also need not only in the industrial world but considerable data analysis skills at schools and campuses. So, according to him, this class is essential to follow to understand big data well. "Interestingly, the participants are not only from Sospol students but also those whose basics are beyond that, even from outside UMM," he added. (apg/zak/wil)
