In a music band, a man usually fills a drummer position. But that opinion was broken by Jean Fatiha Izma. The final year student at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has filled the role of drum player since High School (SMA). Thanks to one of her strengths, she qualified as a finalist for Putri Indonesia, representing the city of Bima at the level of the province of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

Jean, her nickname, said that her interest in the world of music came from her friends in high school. Hanging out with a group of boy bands makes Jean want to learn a musical instrument. Initially, she was taught to play the guitar by a friend. But she finally switched to playing the drums because she didn't feel right.

"Initially, I had time to learn to sing to become a band's vocalist. But it turns out to be more fun to play the drums. While it's fun, some hard things to do first when playing drums. One of them is balancing the left and right brain. This happens because our hands and feet have to move together when we play the drum," said the student majoring in Accounting.

In addition to displaying her expertise in playing the drums at the Miss Indonesia election event in NTB, Jean also showed her acting talent and skills in making a waist bag from Bima's typical woven cloth. "Honestly, this is my first time participating in an activity like this, and I didn't expect to be able to represent Bima at the provincial level. Even though I couldn't advance to the national level, I am proud," said the youngest of two siblings.

Jean admitted that she was nervous about taking part in the Indonesian women's election. The reason is that besides this activity being her first experience, Jean is also a shy child. She explained that she had just started learning to socialize well when she entered the lecture world.

"Initially, I was very nervous when I was going to join this event. However, it turned out that the people at the Indonesian women's election were very kind and friendly. In addition, I was also helped by the communication skills that I trained at UMM. Ultimately, deciding to participate in the Indonesian women's election was the right decision. I also hope other friends will want to get out of their comfort zone and try new things," she concluded. (apg/shi/wil)
