The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) ranked first place in achieving the most funded proposals in the Program Pembinaan Mahasiswa Wirausaha (P2MW). 19 out of 20 proposals received funding from Kementerian Pendidikan. Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi (Kemdikbud-Ristek) at the end of April, competing with several other well-known campuses.

It has become a good news received by UMM to continue to create superior generations in the future. Dr. Nur Subeki, ST,. MT as Deputy Chancellor III for Student Affairs and Alumni also felt proud of the achievements of UMM students. According to him, a program like this encourages student independence with entrepreneurship.

Regarding P2MW, Eki said that students can develop leadership skills in managing an activity or business. The program made by Kemdikbud-Ristek aims to develop student businesses that have been run with the help of development and coaching funds. As a result, students who have passed the selection will compete in the KMI Expo.

In addition, Kewirausahaan Mahasiswa Indonesia (KMI) Expo is a place for entrepreneurial students from all over Indonesia to compete with each other and introduce their products. This year, KMI Expo will be held in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. “The proposals that have been funded will be mentored by qualified experts. Hopefully, they will be able to realize their proposals and turn them into a real business and will be able to go to the KMI Expo,” he added.

“The number of proposals received is due to the work we have been doing for a long time. UMM has developed and run an entrepreneurial program that is intended not only for economics students but also for all students,” he explained.

UMM's entrepreneurship program encourages students to create jobs independently and encourage the development of innovation. This program is not only for economics students, but is run in each faculty by relying on each of their expertise. For example, engineering students have a technopreneur program or agriculture students have an agropreneur program.

In fact, UMM's flagship program has been included as a course in various faculties. Students are also accommodated with frequent bazaars provided at various events such as graduation. Eki emphasized that UMM not only provides academic support, but also provides support for students to explore their talents and interests, including in the entrepreneurial world. Therefore, the campus is not only a place to study, but also a place to make a network and learn various things.

Finally, various student businesses that have been successfully funded are expected to continue after the KMI Expo. However, they are really proceeding to create new jobs for the community. Therefore, UMM is also designing the development of a marketplace that can be used by students to sell their products. Later, this marketplace will be managed specifically by UMM and can be accessed by students who have businesses. Hopefully, with this, student businesses will expand beyond the local level to the international market.

“We can learn from the Prophet Muhammad who started his journey from a trader to a caliph. UMM students will also not only become leaders, but also leaders who have businesses,” he said. (tri/wil/put)
