The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) once again inaugurated a professor on January 13. This time, it comes from the Faculty of Islamic Religion (FAI), Prof. Dr. Abdul Haris, MA., who successfully earned the title of professor in Arabic language education. Interestingly, he has created the 'EMAS' method, which serves as a shortcut in our bald reading learning. Haris is also the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PDM) in Malang City and an alumnus of Sudan.

In his inaugural lecture, Haris explained that the skills of reading and understanding bald books remain a problem for those learning Arabic in educational institutions, including pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). There are two main problems causing difficulties in reading bald books: a lack of vocabulary richness and a lack of understanding of functional Arabic grammar rules.

Therefore, the 'EMAS' model he created is a good conceptual framework to determine systematic steps in learning to read bald books that are easier and relatively faster. There are four steps in the learning process. It starts with E, which stands for Expand Vocabularies. This stage is done to provide sufficient vocabulary. It is accomplished by teaching various Arabic texts with harakat (vowel marks) relevant to the field of study.

Secondly, M or Mastery the Functional Grammar means mastering functional grammar. In this stage, students are taught various nahwu (grammar) rules. It is then followed by the A stage, which is Apply the Jie Sam Soe, meaning applying the analysis of jie sam soe. This step is a simple way to analyze the structure of simple sentences based on understanding the three main elements forming and developing sentences: SPP (Subject, Predicate, and Complement). This analysis model does not require mastering many grammar rules but rather detecting the three roles of related words.

Finally, the S stage, which is Support with More Exercises or assisted with many exercises. In this stage, exercises in reading Arabic texts without harakat are performed. This ranges from simple sentences to texts related to the subject of study.

"Hopefully, this model can be one solution in teaching related to reading bald books, especially for those who want to read bald books but are confused about where to start. Therefore, the EMAS model can be tried to assist in learning," he concluded in his inauguration process. (wil/fajr)
