UMM Faculty of Medicine Gives Anatomy Education through Amygdala Event

In order to increase interest and knowledge related to anatomy, the Laboratory Department of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held Amygdala on October 25-30. This is a national level Olympiad in the field of anatomy which is participated by 78 teams from 31 universities. There are also 18 teams competing in the SMA category.

The chief executive, Imanullah Akbar, is proud that this competition is getting more and more widespread every year. A few years ago, there were only a handful of participants, but this year the team has expanded and made the competition even more exciting. These include the University of Indonesia (UI) and Gadjah Mada University (UGM).

He emphasized that this event was also a way for his party to increase knowledge related to anatomy. Especially for this year, the theme is the cerebrosensory system of the five senses. “For next year, we are targeting Amygdala to be held internationally by inviting state universities to participate and compete. That way, the participants will also be encouraged to show their best,” explained Akbar optimistically.

All teams take part in the preliminary round online. Then 20 teams were selected to compete in the quarter-finals to compete for a place in the semifinals. Until finally, a team from Lambung Mangkurat University was selected which won first and second place. Meanwhile, the third place was won by a team from UGM. While in the SMA category, SMAN 2 Tangerang Selatan won.

Interestingly, the Amygdala event does not only provide competitions, but also seminars. There is Dr. Yoyok Subagio, Sp.BS and Dr. Aryani Vindhya, Sp.M. which describes the approach to the clinical form of aneurysms and glaucoma. There are more than 115 offline participants, and more than 390 online participants.

Regarding Amygdala, Yafi, one of the participants said he was enthusiastic. Moreover, the program is packaged in an attractive and interactive way. A lot of knowledge and new friends can be obtained. “It is very educational, the competition is fair, and the knowledge provides a complete understanding. The doctor who was the speaker was also funny and interesting so we didn't get bored following him," Yafi concluded. (cdr/fat/wil)
