Seeing the market needs for the micro, small and medium business, and tourism sectors, the Faculty of Economics and Business has launched three Center of Excellence (CoE) professional classes. These classes are Tourism and Hospitality, Supply Chain Management, and Accounting For SME. The launching of the three types was held on Saturday (25/6).

The Dean of FEB UMM, Dr. Idah Zuhroh, M.M, said that the management class for tourism and hospitality was launched based on tourism conditions that had started to improve. Two years earlier, the existing situation did not allow this sector to develop due to the pandemic. In addition, the tertiary and secondary needs of the community for tourism are also necessary at this time.

"Ecotourism will grow a fast-spreading growth distribution because many sectors are related. Even with the supply chain, which is certainly needed," he explained.

Idah, her nickname, again explained that the supply chain is considered capable of controlling the flow of goods, resources, and information. So later, the products from the supply chain can build solid economic efficiency. It will also impact the economic growth and economic equality of the community.

"The great prospects of MSMEs must be maximized. I am sure it can be successful as long as these MSMEs are ready with the existing reporting standards. Therefore, we not only need to work with conventional education parties but also directly with the industry," Idah added.

The same thing was also conveyed by the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. He considered that universities must be adaptive to the times. Not only struggling with the existing education system but also having to come up with reasonable solutions.

The existence of the UMM CoE class is an effort by the university to prepare professional professionals who are experts in specific fields. Students are also free to choose options according to their passions, interests, and talents. That way, students can graduate with confidence and independence and have two main competencies—the academic and leadership competencies from the CoE that have been prepared.

Meanwhile, the Head of PHRI Malang, I Agoes Basuki, SH., SST. Par, who was also present, said that the hotel and restaurant association has a vision and mission: to help national economic development. One way is to hook the academic world, which can later give birth to qualified human resources. Besides that, it also produces good business products.

There are business products that are currently being developed as halal products. He considered that many things could be explored and discussed to advance each party. One of the things that caught his attention was the UMM Halal Center which could be a mediator and mentor for entrepreneurs to get halal certificates.

"I also believe that CoE innovation can give good results. Not only for related parties but also the community," said Agoes. (cdr/zak/wil)
