To welcome the golden era and prepare future generations, the Faculty of Psychology, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), launched the Center of Excellence (CoE) for the professional class of human resource development (HRD) at the end of March. The launch was accompanied by the signing of a collaboration with a series of Industrial World Businesses (DUDI) in curriculum and program development.

Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, UMM Muhammad Salis Yuniardi, M.Psi., P.hD., revealed that establishing this professional class is one way to match the existing curriculum in universities with the perceived needs of the industry. That way, there will be strategic continuity between the two—an opportunity to learn from each other and a forum for discussion to prepare a competent generation.

Until now, ten companies have collaborated in developing the HRD class. Thirty-six other companies have become internships for psychology students at the White Campus. So, Salis feels that this HRD class is a promising breakthrough that benefits all parties.

"In addition to HRD, we have also prepared another CoE, which will be finalized soon. Call it an individual companion class with special needs (IBK). Likewise, we will soon work on his acknowledgment through the BNSP certification. Besides that, there is also a psychologist assistant class which is also being discussed with related friends," added Salis.

On the other hand, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., said that many scholars still felt they were not ready to jump in and understand what they had learned during college. Departing from these concerns, the White Campus took the initiative to build various study-based centers of excellence. It is also seen as an effort to solve current problems and prepare the younger generation to meet the demographic bonus in the future. Moreover, in 2045, Indonesia will become the world's number six significant economic power.

According to him, if universities are not ready for that era, the future of Indonesian youth will be mediocre even though this country is already crowded with ordinary people. "Then the idea was born to create these professional classes. The HRD class initiated by the Psychology Faculty is not only for psychology students. But all students from various majors can participate and jump into it. It does not rule out the possibility for the wider community," he said.

Fauzan continued until now that UMM already has 17 CoE, the number of which will continue to grow. The plan is that there will be a mass launch at the university level for all professional classes that each study program has established. This is intended to answer and prepare superior human resources.

Finally, he considered that educational institutions are responsible for giving birth to a capable generation. It does not stop at mere jargon but must be implemented in real terms by leading students to the door of success. "Hopefully, this HRD class can be one of the doors. We also hope that DUDI can provide knowledge, motivation, and even a CoE participants network," he concluded. (cdr/wil)
