The academic community of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) continues to make achievements. This time it came from UMM Faculty of Law students, namely Amanda Putri Rahmawati and Yogi Syahputra, who managed to lock a second place in the national debate competition titled Public Expo 2022 at the end of last August.

In total, 24 teams participated in the competition using the British parliamentary debate system: two people in one team. The team from UMM white campus managed to make it to the finals and met students from Universitas Insan Cita Indonesia. The other participants came from universities throughout Indonesia, such as Sriwijaya University, Hasanuddin University, and others.

The student, who is often called Amanda, said that she and the team prepared for the competition in a short time but were mature enough. She and Yogi have done in-depth research on the topics raised to be presented to the jury in videos. There are three rounds that the white campus team must pass. First, the preliminaries, the semifinals, and then the final. Especially for the preliminary round, they sent a motion video to the committee.

She and Yogi feel lucky to study at UMM White Campus. It cannot be separated from a series of organizations provided, both those that improve skills in academics and academics. Amanda has joined three semi-autonomous institutions (LSOs) that have provided her with rhetoric, namely the Motu Judicial LSO, the Research and Debate Community, and the Center for Scientific Studies (Pukas).

"From there, I learned many things. I'm not only majoring in science but also how in speaking, rhetorically, and organizing. Moreover, seeing that this competition is carried out as a team, so like it or not, I have to be able to compromise and unite ideas with Yogi so that I can win this competition nicely," said the student who was born in Lampung.

According to Amanda, UMM was also very helpful during the pre-competition process. There is guidance, help taking, editing, and other crucial preparations. Even nuga appreciated his victory in various forms.

"In the semi-finals, we met the host, Makassar State University, and discussed the motion related to the construction of the toll road that was not significantly affected by the improvement of the community's economy. While in the final, the motion that was raised was the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the confessionalism system was better than the two-state system in resolving the conflict," said the 2020 student.
