University of Muhammadiyah Malang has consistently received awards in various competitions, from ministries to the business and industrial world, and institutions affiliated with the Muhammadiyah organization. Aminudin, S.Kom., M.Cs., Head of the Information Systems Division of the UMM Information and Communication Bureau, received the National Innovation Award in the field of Digital Economy. The Directorate General of Higher Education Research and Technology (Diktiristek) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in Jakarta presented the award on December 13th.

The award was granted to recipients of the 2023 Matching Fund with rather strict success indicators, focusing on the program's beneficial impact that society could feel widely. Aminudin and his team succeeded in developing the Quran learning application called Ngaji.AI.

"The primary indicator for this award is the perceived benefit to society. Our application, Ngaji.AI, can be downloaded from the PlayStore and is usable by all age groups, from children to adults," he explained.

This recognition was attributed to Aminudin's contribution as the lead researcher in the Ngaji.AI application project. The application is designed to detect the accuracy of Quranic recitations using voice. The motivation behind developing this application was the difficulty faced in Quranic learning during the pandemic, when people were restricted from leaving their homes to curb the spread of the virus.

"The mechanism for using the Ngaji.AI application is simple. Users need to read verses, and the application can detect and correct pronunciation, including vowel length, rules of recitation, or Tajwid, and pronunciation of Arabic letters. This innovation stands as a distinguishing feature of this Quran learning application compared to others," he stated.

There are already thousands of users benefiting from the Ngaji.AI application. The badminton enthusiast hopes that with Ngaji.AI, people can independently engage more intensely in learning the Quran. However, he emphasizes the importance of learning directly from knowledgeable individuals.

"This application serves as a supplementary tool for Quranic learning. We aim to continually expand Ngaji.AI's functions for various purposes, especially for those who spend a lot of time on digital devices," he concluded. (faq/wil/fajr)
