5 UMM Lecturers Join Erasmus Program to Poland

University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), together with Erasmus, just dispatched five UMM lecturers to fly to Poland. Through the Erasmus Staff Week program, UMM lecturers' visits to Poland are not only for visits but also carry out teaching and workshops at Politechnika Lubelska, Lublin, Poland. The activity took place at the end of last June.

The five lecturers consisted of Muhammad Salis Yuniardi, S.Psi, M.Psi, Ph.D., and Dr. Iswinarti, M.Si. from the Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Fien Zulfikarijah, MM., and Dra. Erna Retno Rahadjeng, M.M. from the Faculty of Business Economics, and one lecturer from the Faculty of Engineering Iis Siti Aisyah, ST., MT. Ph.D.

Salis, as he is known, explained that the first day he set foot there, he was given time to teach and explain cross-cultural psychology. He and a lecturer from Politechnika Lubelska exchanged thoughts and ideas. Mainly related to the Indonesian culture.

"Specifically, I delivered material on the cultural dimension of the Indonesian people. I explain according to the study of cross-cultural psychology. There, I also talked about the various cultural advantages in Indonesia, one of which is about the total language that reaches 178 regional languages, "he said.

In addition to teaching, he also attended training that discussed library management and publications, even with the publication of scientific works from the academic community. According to him, the difference between UMM and Politechnika Lubelska is only the management style. In general, the management is almost the same.

While in Poland, they talked more about cooperation. There, he was also invited by the head of the International Relations Office (IRO), Politechnika Lubelska, and met the leaders of study programs to discuss short-term and long-term cooperation with the UMM White Campus.

"Early last July, four lecturers from Politechnika Lubelska also came to UMM to conduct guest lectures to students. From there, we also discussed long-term collaborations such as joint research and student exchange for UMM students," he continued.

For him, a visit to Poland is precious and provides many new insights. He was determined to bring the knowledge he had acquired to be better developed at UMM. "One of the interesting things is the planning of the laboratory. The laboratory at UMM is already perfect, but some things can be improved and developed. The laboratory there is not kidding. When we talk about academics, the laboratory is the core of academics. If we want research to increase, then the laboratory needs to be improved as well," he added.

Finally, he hoped that after he visited Poland, he could be helpful for academics at UMM. He brought three provisions to be developed to UMM, namely improving English for all UMM academics, exchanging international activities, and creating an atmosphere of academic research and laboratories.
