Ramadan this year, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) received kurma (date palm) assistance from the embassy of Saudi Arabia again. In the previous year, UMM received 2 tons kurma while this year the number was increasing drastically up to 8 tons.
“Alhamdulillah we have been trusted to distribute the kurma from Saudi Arabia. From year to year, the amount of kurma is growing because we always report the distribution list to the donator,” said the head of International Relations Bureau Drs. Abdul Haris, MA.
The assistance arrived with two large containers last week. The kurma was packed in the carton. In addition, this year UMM received more kurma, 450 cartons, compared with last year which only got 100 cartons.
Since the amount of kurma was quite a lot, it made the committee of Ramadan which was centered at AR Fachruddin mosque was busy with the distribution--they should pack them into several sizes. “There are 10 kg, 5 kg, 1 kg, and ½ kg,” cleared the head of Markas Dakwah FAI UMM Budi Gunawan who handled the distribution of kurma.
Moreover, the number of receiver was also increased from the previous year. Beside the lecturer, employee, and part timer, the kurma was distributed to 300 institutions that had submitted the proposal. For example, mosque, orphanage, and street children organization. The request was not only from institution around Malang Raya but also from out of the city, like Ngawi, Tuban, Kediri, and even Madura.
Furthermore, Abdul Haris added that this event was a form of Ramadan event that was held by UMM to share with the society. “I expect through this event can increase the awareness for doing good deeds and sharing with others,” he concluded. (nov/nas/t_rys)
