BEM FISIP Entire Indonesia Discusses Indonesian Politics

Student Executive Board (BEM) of Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) University of Muhammadiyah Malang held National Seminary and A Discussion about Indonesian Politics. Under the topic of “Building Dignified Politics Movement as An Attempt to Recover Indonesia”, the event lasted for two days since Wednesday (5/30) at UMM Dome theater.

The event was attended by BEM FISIP entire Indonesia invited the former Chief of Indonesian House of Representative and the former chief of Golkar Party Dr. Akbar Tandjung. Akbar came as a keynote speaker and he delivered the speech before the other speakers on that day.

FISIP Dean of UMM Dr. Wahyudi, M.Si stated, the event was a creative step organized by students in order to develop the nation from a wide divergence of today’s politics happened in Indonesia. From the agenda, the dean hoped, young generation would contribute for developing directive change. It was intended to recover the soul of being Indonesian.    

The event was held by the Vice Rector III, Dr. Diah Karmiyati, M.Si. “To have wisdom is a must for a leader in order to be able to guide the society,” she said in her speech. She also hoped, wisdom could be performed by the next generation included FISIP student. 

In his statement, Akbar Tandjung told that today’s politics had decreased. “There are undignified politics practices today. It shows dishonest attitude, quality of democracy is neglected for the sake of certain group business not for public necessities,” he said.  

In addition, Akbar stated, every party had to evaluate themselves. It concerned that party would attract the society to join it. If it was clearly done, there would be fresh and ideal leader for the nation.

Besides, Akbar said, one thing needed to be considered to perform fresh and ideal new leader was evaluating recruitment system and cadre formation. For him, it could be overcome by regeneration. Besides, society stigma on political parties should be evaluated. He, then, expected, the young generation could be more excellent and could really show the real soul of leader. The leader was not only measured by his age but also his competence and experience. He considered, in such situation, young generation must be able to form new Tritura that met society needs today. “For sure, the older has to encourage and motivate the younger to go on the struggle in future,” said Akbar.    

 “Again, we raise it up all at once encourage the young generations to join political parties and calls them in order not to be contaminated with the environment, they must bring new paradigm in his political party,” he closed. (nov/nas/t_vik)
