After young lecturers involving permanent lectures and permanent lecture candidates, it was the time to conduct a training for 40 temporary lecturers of UMM coming from various departments. The training about improving instructional technique skill (PEKERTI) was was held on Friday (4/20) in the hall of Masjid AR. Fachruddin. It was the initiative of the former Vice Rector II Drs. Mursidi, MM. He wanted temporary lecturers to have the same perception on teaching activity at UMM.
The Chief of Academic Quality Assurance Board Prof. Dr. Wahyu Widodo, MS stated in his speech there are three must-have qualities of a university; academic standard, human resources and supporting facilities and infrastuctures which prop up lecturers in improving their teaching quality.
In addition, quality assurance at UMM has been so good because UMM monitors teaching activity through Closed Circuit Television (CCTV). The cameras are set in every classrooms. Through the system, the university knows the teaching staff's performance from both attendance and punctuality aspects.
To improve performance of the temporary lecturers, UMM also provides facilities in the form of opportunity to conduct research and community service based on Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (three duties of higher education). Therefore, lecturers might meet the requirement by proposing position with four-year teaching period minimum.
He added lecturer's quality must be supported with lecturer's functional position, lecturer's certification, further education, compulsory load of teaching and research or community service at least once a year.
“Students’ skill will develop if it is supported with good teaching quality standard,” Wahyu concluded. (nov/nas/t_vik)
