JC Organizes Journalistic Workshop

           There is one more club of student’s interest at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) which shows its existence. Journalistic Club (JC), the club name of Communications student, started to work again after some time ago it had launched books written by its members. This time JC organizes journalism workshop and training on Sunday (12/5).

The event themed "I want to be a Journalist" presented two speakers, namely the coordinator of Media Nusantara Citra (MNC) of East Java area, Solikin Bahari and reporter of Radar Malang, Neni Fitrin. The participants included students from various departments at UMM.

Solikin delivered material about reportage, shooting, TV script writing until on cam on the screen. Meanwhile, Neni delivered about news coverage and broadcast for the printed media.

"Television and online world are currently becomes idols. Journalistic students like or not should shoot the world. The keys are learning a lot and practicing continuously. There is no journalist born instantly," said Solikin motivating.

On that occasion, Solikin who is also a lecturer at the Department of Communication Studies UMM provided examples, tips, and his experiences during becoming a journalist. He stated about how to make a decent reportage and get on cam on television screen.

Meanwhile, Neni Fitrin who delivered printed journalistic materials asserted that to be a journalist needs a willingness to explore self-potential.

"Studying at university is not sufficient investment to look for jobs because it is a means of forming mindset. Therefore, we must seek knowledge through another ways such as workshops and joining organizations," he explained.

Both presenters agreed saying that television and printed media reporters have to have ethics when doing reportage. One of them, a journalist must be able to provide cover both sides news, covering the two different sides on balance and impartial.

In the event, the workshop participants were also given time to practice in the field for 1.5 hours. According to the Chief of JC, Ditalia I Mufrida, with the blend between material and practice made the seminar participants to be better in understanding the seminar material.

"The direct practice in the sidelines of the event made the participants to be better in understanding workshop materials. Besides, it could anticipate the boredom of the participants during the event," said Dita. (trs/nas/t_alf)
