Graduates are one of the direct outputs from education process held by universities. The graduates should have academic competence and soft skill as it is stated through quality target and proved through graduate's performance iin society in accordance with their professions. Higher education has important role in analysing academic data of all the study programs which describe overall higher education performance to asses characteristics, profiles and graduate mapping. Higher education should try to help graduates to get jobs and improve interaction between graduates and the institutions.
Universities should have mechanism which guarantees utilization of evaluation result and tracking graduates at institution level to develop department/study program.
Specifications of UMM Alumni
Graduates of University of Muhammadiyah Malang can have Islamic life and uswah khasanah, so that they are able to :
1. Design and implement science and skill in the field of science which is occupied.
2. Have scientific creativity and integrity.
3. Have an ability to study and solve problems in the recent scientific fields and in the future with the support of science and technology.
Alumni Communication Forum
Alumni communication forum is facilitated by university and faculties to have sharing between UMM and the alumni. This forum is organized informally and formally meeting, especially at workshop to find suggestions from alumni and external takeholders.
Alumni Meeting
Almost all the faculties have organized alumni meeting. The university itself turn oni an agenda of alumni meeting at the certain times. Through the meeting, guidence and communication will be well established. Besides, the meeting is also can be used as a means of business meeting and job fair.
Alumni Organization
To accomodate the alumni, UMM facilitate the establisment of alumni organization. So far, alumni organizations are still limited on faculty level. The higher organization, that is on university level, is still on the stage of its establishment.
UMM alumni which the total number has reached 52.165 people (data on September 2008), spread everywhere with various job fields. Organizing alumni gave UMM a change to guarantee the solidity and jobs for fresh graduates.
Re-Educating Alumni
Homecoming event for alumni is also organized by UMM. This homecoming is held to communicate and re-educate alumni who have not got jobs.
In re-education, alumni will be educate again with new knowledge which is suitable for thier job fields and some materials related tom anagement, leadership and personality. The material presenters of re-educating alumni event mostly are taken from UMM lecturers and persenters outside UMM, especially the professionals of their fields.
Through re-education, it is hoped that UMM alumni will have more value in science and suitable to the stakeholders' needs. Re-education organized regularly and it is coordinated by alumni section of UMM.
Guidance on Alumni
To guarantee alumni's quality so that they can meet stakeholder's needs, UMM try to guide the alumni. The guidances , among other things are:
> Supplying material to the alumni > Appreticing alumni > Re-education > Trainings, etc.
Almost all the guidance activities are facilitated directly by faculties and some by university through alumni section of UMM. The alumni guidance organized everytime, right based on alumni's request or Student Affairs Bureau's work program of UMM.
