By joining a certain organization UMM expects students will build on their leadership skills.
Therefore UMM makes it free for students to join organizations both on and off campus.
There are many on-campus organizations available ranging from BEM, Student Senate, HMJ and Himapro.
Off-campus organizations are also well developed and include: IMM, HMI, GMNI, KAMMI and others.
At UMM there are many associations or communities of students outside Malang, namely from Mataram, Borneo, Sumatra, Bali, Celebes, West Java, Jakarta, Central Java, Papua, and others.
