American Corner (Amcor) of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) again held a guest lecture. This time the guest who would give lecture is David Anderson, a lawyer who has a dozen years dealing with international lawyerworld. Lecture would take place in the courtroom of UMM Rector starting from today (10/28) at 13.00 of local time (Western Indonesia Time).
Head of the Bureau of International Cooperation (BKLN) of UMM, Soeparto, said the lecture would be attended by lecturers and students who involved in legal studies, such as the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Social and Political Science. However, it is also possible for general public who are interested in the discussion on the modernization of the courts in general to attend the lecturer.
In Indonesia, Anderson is Chief of Party of the Indonesia Anti-Corruption and Commercial Courts Enhancement (In-ACCE) Project. The institution established by USAID/Indonesia program, one of them is court reform through modern management such as court automation, cash-flow management and human resource management.
Before being a lawyer, Anderson also was known as a peace volunteer in Zaire for three years. He built the community through health services and services of rural communities there.
Soeparto added that it has become a routine agenda from American Corner (Amcor) of UMM. At a certain period, Amcor always present guest lecturers to give insight about the actual issues especially from the perspective of America. Nevertheless, it is possible to discuss local issues in a global perspective. "So, this forum is not only to enrich the English vocabulary, but also build a culture and a touch of international studies. We have to get used to scientifically discuss with strangers," said Suparto. (nash/t_alf)
