Finally, two students of Communication Studies of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Taufan Agustian and Abdul Malik, reached the peak of achievement in the Eagle Awards Documentary Competition (EADC) 2009. Last night (10/24) both of them were crowned as the winner of the best story idea for the film “Merajut Impian Dibalik Catwalk Jalanan/Knitting the Dream behind Street Catwalk”. Not only that, the film also received the most supports from viewers so that it won favorite film category based on the number of viewers.
Documentary film made by the initiator of cinematography lover community "Makmoer Sejahtera" tells about mass fashion festival in Jember. Taufan quite mastered this theme because he is student from the city. "From the first, I have had an obsession to film the festival," said Taufan.
EACD is documentary film competition event held annually by Metro TV. This year, Eagle Awardsfinal judging has been done on this day, October 20, 2009 at 11:00 to 14:00 at Metro TV. Initially, members of the jury who would select the Best Film and the Film of Jury’s Recommendations are Nia Dinata, Jajang C. Noer and Yudhi Soerjoatmodjo. However, because Yudhi Soerjoatmodjo was sick, then he was replaced by Garin Nugroho.
Criteria in final judging this time was more complete than in the last year. This year, the judging criteria were not only on the storyline, but also on how presenting the point of view, how character proximity can be well illustrated and smoothness in translating major theme of Eagle Awards 2009 "Indonesia Creative."
Because of the achievement, Taufan and Malik received an award from Metro TV and a prize of a set of portable editing. Both of them became the pride of the Department of Communications Studies, after last year the department also successfully passed a finalist in the same event.
Chief of Department of Communication Studies, Joko Susilo, admitted to be very proud of this achievement because thus the efforts to explore the potential of gifted students conducted by the department so far had produced results. In UMM Communication Studies, it is always held the competition of printed and audio visual ads.
