Students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) responded positively when they knew the accreditation result of their university, yesterday (3/5). Toward the website of Board of National Accreditation of Institution (BAN-PT), it is known that UMM got A grade. Some of the students linked the information directly to their facebook account.
“Of course I am proud. It is the highest grade and valid for both PTS and PTN. Now, the consideration is the quality which is measured by this accreditation," said Dewi Patria Novitasari, student of English Department UMM.
Another pride was expressed by the alumni. Jalaludin Hambali, one of the alumni expressed his pride to be part of UMM. He believed that the quality of his university is as good as others.
The Chief of Public Relation UMM Nasrullah confirmed that this year UMM got satisfying score. Around 28 institutions were assessed by BAN-PT and UMM got A grade together with another seven institutions. "The all accreditation grades are valid for five years starts from 2013 until 2018," cleared Nasrullah.
From the eight institutions which got A grade, five of them are state universities (Institute of Technology Bandung, Institute of Agriculture Bogor, University of Gadjah Mada, University of Indonesia, and University of Hasanuddin). Meanwhile, two others private universities beside UMM are University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and University of Islam Indonesia, Yogyakarta.
"Alhamdulillah, the A grade from this institution accreditation make us proud and it also becomes the great challenge, so that we can maintain and improve the educational quality. Previously, we got B grade for five years," said Nasrullah.
The well preparation for UMM accreditation have been conducted since October last year. “The visitation of the assessor last December make us nervous since we targeted to get A grade," stated Nasrullah.
As the result, UMM got final score as 364 with A grade as stated in a Decree from Ministry of Education and Culture No. 074/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-IV/PT/II/2013 on February 21 2013 signed by the Chief of BAN-PT Mansur Ramli. The decree was accepted yesterday by Vice Rector I Prof Dr Bambang Widagdo, MM.
The A accreditation, said Bambang, meant that UMM is one of the leading and first rate universities which got greater autonomy right, such as the right to select research proposal from the academicians UMM to Directorate General of Higher Education and having right to get grants especially for A accreditation institution like grant from Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Home Affairs, and State Minister for Research and Technology.
