Ramadan I’tikaf Study (PIR) in 1433 H University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) presented the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Board Prof Dr Dadang Kahmad in AR Facruddin Hall on Thursday (9/8). The study was followed by male group that consist with no less than 450 UMM faculty and staff.   

Dadang was impressed with the forum which had been the tradition at UMM. The forum could be a mean of unifying whole academicians who had worked hard in their daily routine at UMM. “It is very positive for our religious life even for our daily life in University,” he delivered.  

In his speech, Dadang delivered the speech under the topic of the truth of Ramadan as the Month of Qur’an. “This special month reveals an instruction to do a fasting through al-Qur’an as well as the month of it become a revelation, it is believed in the night of lailatu-l qadar,” said Dadang about the specialty of Ramadan.  

Al-Qur’an which we hold today was an authentic text the same as the one that was hold by the prophet Muhammad and even the tabi’in.

Nevertheless, one night Muhammad had ever grieved because he just received a revelation that his people would be harmed by reading the Quran but never thought about it. Muhammad sadness is based on understanding of surah Ali Imran verse 190-191. He regretted that his people just make Al-Quran as the reading material but do not understand it and even do not take lessons from it. People are reading the Quran but it has been ignored," Dada said seriously.

However, according to Dadang, reading al-Qur’an is still very important that people will be avoided from mistake if they could understand its meaning. "A pilot course who already knew how to fly a plane, are still required to read the manual before flying the plane because it was the standard procedure. Every day we get on a plane, but each was also a steward demonstrates how to rescue," said Dada gave the illustration of repetition to read al-Quran to understand it in order to survive the journey in the world and the hereafter.

In the verse quoted above, there was a disease called as mahjuro. "For people does not care when al-Qur’an is recited; neglect the instruction of halal and haram, does not refer to al-Qur’an as religious law, does not try hard in understanding the al-Qur’an; as well as making it as a cure for mental illness,” explained Dada. For those people (mahjuro), religion was just stay on their cognition but not implemented in their practice.

In concrete form, al-Quran should be translated in the form of real practice. "UMM standing upright today cannot be separated from a combination of appropriate tafakkur and tadzakkur that based on al-Qur’an teachings. This is a real embodiment, not only to build the religious knowledge but also other sciences," said the former Chairman of PWM West Java.

Ramadan was also a month to practice patience. Dada described, patience was manifested by the patient to undergo God’s command no matter how hard, patient to leave the haram, and patient to face the unfulfilled desires. Therefore, we have to do fasting and prayers.

The event that is guided by the rector Dr Muhadjir Effendy was continued with a dialogue. The participants showed their enthusiasm to ask about the good deeds during Ramadan, including the matter of reading the Quran in a loud voice even through the speakers. After the recitation, PIR was also organized with interesting discussion topics. Participants were divided into three groups to discuss the bid’ah and the sunnah during fasting, fasting as a shield and the fast for mental health. (ren/nas/t_vik)
