In this era of ever-shifting curriculum and the change, education and learning required a skilled and creative teacher. Teachers’ role did not just do the main task, but also must be able to write a piece of writing that was supported by studies related to the use of a variety of strategies or learning methods as well as the learners.
To optimize further on teachers’ skill, Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held a guest lecture on Thursday (07/19). Under the theme “Building Professional Teachers”, the event presented Vice Rector II Drs. Fauzan M. Pd as a speaker.
In his presentation, Fauzan, the former Dean of FTTE, delivered about the implementation of various teaching strategies or methods and its effect toward learners’ learning process involving learning activities, learning motivation, and learning result.
“First of all, a good teacher, of course, should be good in teaching as well as explaining the course so that the students know and understand on the explanation,” he said. However, it did not stop there, the teacher must be up-to-date on education development. Regarding to education today, teacher competence was not merely on explaining and mastering the subject, but the teacher today were demanded to be professional educators. Teachers’ main task were educating, supervising, directing, training, assessing, and evaluating their students. Those were more in need of continuous professional improvement.
Thus, the teachers were expected to make a scientific assessment by conducting research on classroom action research. “Through this, a teacher will gain an understanding of what to do, reflecting on themselves to understand and appreciate the value of education and learning itself, so it will be working contextually and understand or comprehend the condition of the students," said Fauzan.
