Three of the four mosques owned by the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) became the center of activities during Ramadan this year. The three mosques were Ad-Da'wah at campus II, AR Fachruddin at campus III, and KH Bedjo Darmoleksono at UMM Hospital. While Ad-Da'wah mosques at campus I did not so many activities other than the activities as it was done in daily routine.
On the first day of fasting, Friday (20/7), the campus was off. UMM Head of Public Relations Nasrullah said that during Ramadan, the campus was managed with various activities. Not only doing the ritual such as tarawih, reciting holy Quran, and open fasting together, but also there was the study of Islamic sciences and social work. "During this month, the activities are very busy. Some activities are elective while some others are massive involving thousands of Muhammadiyah pilgrims in East Java," said Nasrullah.
Activities had been started since a week ago through Ramadan Studies that invite a speaker from PP Muhammadiyah Prof Dr Syafiq A Mughny. Then, the activity was followed by Baitul Arqam for lecturers and staff began this week in turn for each work unit. Baitul Arqam was a forum that brought a thematic review. It invited speakers from PP Muhammadiyah, PW Muhammadiyah or PD Muhammadiyah. The event was also scheduled with introspection activity about facing life changes according to the al-Quran. Baitul Arqam would be ended on July 31, 2012.
In the midst of fasting month, the activities became busier. Center for Islamic Studies and Philosophy (PSIF) of UMM organized a Colloquium of Muhammadiyah Ulama around East Java. As in previous years, this study would be followed by thousands cadres of Muhammadiyah which was centered at UMM Dome. So, they would spend their night at Rusunawa and classrooms.
Nasrullah added, social work was also an important agenda at UMM. The committee had prepared social service for free treatment and distribution of basic food to 200 people. There were three locations for the programs; Sumber Pucung at Malang Regency, Junrejo Batu, and Tunggul Wulung Malang. "It is apart from the program of acceptance and distribution of zakat fitrah, which was centered at the mosque of AR Fahruddin," added the lecturer of Communication Studies.
In the last 10 days, UMM held Pengajian I'tikaf Ramadan (PIR). PIR was divided into three groups: first, PIR for functionaries of students (August, 4-5), male lecturers and employees (August, 9), and female lecturers and employees (August, 11).
Meanwhile, on the first night tarawih on Thursday, three mosques filled with congregations. The speakers were: In Ad-Da'wah campus II was Wakidi; in AR Fachruddin was the rector Muhadjir Effendy, and in KH Bedjo Darmoleksono was Syamsul Rizal Yazid. In all three mosques, dawn prayer studies would also be held.
In addition, the Assistant Rector for Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan Syamsul Rizal Yazid said this year's Ramadan committee UMM campus raised the theme of Ramadan “To add faith, knowledge, and good deeds to reach superiority and piety”. "This theme is implemented through activities that are strengthening of ideological unity, expanding the Islamic scientific knowledge, and multiplying charity and concern for others," said Syamsul.
