Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry (FPP) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTIN) on Thursday (7/6). “The objective of this event is optimizing local food resource because of its importance,” said Zulharman, S.Hut, the chief of committee.

The competition took theme “An Attempt to Make Food by Optimizing Local Food Resource. The event was expected to build self-awareness to cope with food crisis as today’s hot issue. The event was done since the food resource today was limited whereas the need was increasing day by day. “Therefore, we should have an alternative way to overcome this issue. Thus, FPP has a chance to hold this event because FPP was considered of having potency to develop this scientific writing,” continued Zulharman.

There were 12 teams from high school students around Indonesia which had been selected before. “We give a chance for those who can develop their works,” declared Zulharman.

Several topics were raised. Those had deep analysis and offer smart solution. One team pointed at using “jangkrik” (jumping insect similar to grasshopper) as an alternative food to complete people’s protein. “It is really original idea because as long as we know, “jangkrik” is only a wrecked-insect but through this work we can develop it becomes food which has high protein,” said Prof Dr Ir Jabal Tarik Ibrahim, M.Si one of the jury.

Passing through rigorous selection, the competition was won by SMA Negeri 1 Ponorogo. The title of their writing was “A Regional Concept with Peculiar Food to Achieve Product Existence and Keep Food Resistance for Indonesia. (nov/nas/t_vik)
