For International Relation students (HI) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), to master foreign language was a must. Not only English, they were also required to master the other languages.

The success of HI program in encouraging the students to master foreign language was supported by foreign language unit (UPT KBA) of UMM. HI students in the academic year of 2009 took one of the four elective foreign language courses; Germany, France, Japan, and Mandarin.

“Any language is an important tool of communication that should be mastered,” stated the Director of UPT KBA UMM Dr. Sri Hartiningsih, MM when she welcomed the inauguration for participant of International Relationship on Friday (6/29) at Campus I UMM.

The agenda was followed by HI students who recently graduated from the course. In addition, the agenda was also organized as awarding day for those who had finished the foreign language course for two semesters gradually. Some performances showed the language used was very well-mastered by the students. Moreover, the invited guests were amused involving the Vice Rector II of UMM, Drs. Fauzan M.Pd.

“It shows that UMM students have a value. They are not only knowledgeable in their academic performance but also well-performed in language and art,” said Fauzan proudly.

Through the activity, the students are hoped to be more motivated and want to enlarge their own knowledge. Furthermore, HI students have some literatures come from many languages. “Their foreign language mastering will really give an advantage when they apply for Erasmus Mundus scholarship later,” continued Fauzan.

The course certificate was also given in that occasion. For the best participant was awarded to Astri Nurani from France class, Jayanti Badariyan from Germany class, Widya Ari Nastiti from Mandarin class, and Octanama Valentine from Japanese class.

For this, Sri Hartiningsih hoped, the mastered language would not be forgotten. Therefore, she adviced the students to have a practice in the class and even in their daily communication.

KBA UMM was one of business units owned by UMM in the field of developing language. In addition, KBA opened any language course and served the students in any ages. KBA tutors were from UMM lecturers and even the natives from various countries. KBA course was opened for public and UMM students with affordable price. (uci/nas/t_vik)
