Again, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FTTE) successfully uphold its position as the winner of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Rector Cup 2012. In the previous year, FTTE had also won the most achievement in this competition. The achievement moved Faculty of Social and Political Science as the winner in several years before. “Alhamdulillah, we win again,” said the Vice Dean III of FTTE Drs. Nurwidodo, M.Kes after participating the closing ceremony of Rector Cup on Saturday (9/6).
The chief of committee Zakarija Achmat, S.Psi, M.Si stated, Rector Cup this year was more joyous due to the more competitions were competed. Besides, there were much more Student Activity Unit (UKM) that was involved. “There are 91 competition parties with involving 22 UKM as the committee. Whole faculties participate the competition throughout,” he said. In addition, FTTE stated as the winner after achieved 24 gold medals.
The competition divided into four parties; sport, art, reasoning, and religion. Up to this year, sport still considered as the most favorite competition for students. It was clear from the supporters’ enthusiasm in competition of basket ball, football, even volley ball.
A religious competition was much more participated by the students of Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI). It was not merely that, it was also business plan competition that was organized directly by cooperative student unit and scientific-knowledge discussion forum. Besides, there was also singing competition; seriosa and keroncong—there was a few of students joined them. “This is understandable because the competition is mostly joined by the students who really have a talent and interest in them,” stated Zakarija.
The Rector Muhadjir Effendy declared, the event was done in the step of exploring students’ talent and interest. So that, the students were expected to not only stop the achievement in university level but also developing it into a larger scale. “This Rector Cup will last in every year to explore the students’ talent and interest,” said Muhadjir when he closed the ceremonial event of Rector Cup.
The closing ceremony was gloriously lasted. Beside it was followed by distributing some door prizes, it also designed by taking a walk which was joined by the students, employees, and lecturers. In addition, door prize distribution, music show, and UKM performance was an integral part of the event.
The head of Students Affair Board Drs. Atok Miftahul Huda, M.Kes felt happy with the running event of Rector Cup this year. He stated, the champions were expected to represent the university in Regional Student Art Week (Peksiminal) in the field of art; in Student Sport Week at Local Level (Pomda); and Student Sport Week at National Level (Pomnas). “I do hope, in future, there will be more students who participates it.
