The Head of Governmental Science Department Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) of University of Muhammadiyah Malang Dr. Tri Sulistyaningsih, M.Si was awarded as outstanding head department in the level of Coordination of Private Higher Education VII (Kopertis VII) of East Java. The award followed her achievement of being chosen as the best head of department at UMM this year. Together with a few of outstanding lecturers, students, and employees, Tri Sulistyaningsih got the award in a ceremony of National Education Day (Hardiknas) at UMM helipad on the beginning of May 2012.
“Alhamdulillah, I can achieve this award which I dedicate for Governmental Science Department and for UMM for sure,” said Tri about her achievement.
The wife from a former Dean of Engineering Faculty of UMM Ir. Sunarto, MT declared that her life was just flowed out. She had served as a secretary of the department, Vice Dean II of FISIP, and a manager of collaboration between FISIP UMM with Australian University which united in Australian Consortium for In Country Indonesian Studies (ACICIS). There, she was believed as the secretary and the head.
Tri was born in Pekalongan and had finished her study of S1 at Undip, S2 at Unair, and S3 at UB. Though she had served as Vice Dean II of FISIP UMM, she said that now being as Head of Department was not descending position but changing official statement.
“Managing the department is managing the cutting edge of academic. We are in direct contact with students’ problem and teaching issue,” stated Tri.
In her leadership, Tri applied collective collegial system. “For head of department’s duty is implementing Tri Dharma of Higher Education, thus, the department must be managed by using collective collegial culture along with egalitarian relationship,” she said.
In addition, she said, Governmental Science Department was managed by applying Student Centered Learning and Governmental Research Internship. The program allowed the student-centered process of teaching and learning was put into a practice of internship in governmental institution by being involved in discussing a policy up to the application.
“Through the program, students are expected to be fully involved in governmental institution and in Indonesian House Representative begins from its formulation, implementation, and evaluation,” said Tri.
From year to year, Governmental Science Department kept evaluating itself. Today, there were three things had done by the department to improve the accreditation. Those were to improve the management, the implementation of Tri Dharma, and to run synergic relationship with the students. “Through the new program, Governmental Science Department is expected to be more exist and accepted in community or even by the work partner. It is intended that the alumni can compete in the work field,” she closed. (uci/nas/t_vik)
