Moslem community leaders from various countries in Southeast Asia would have a meeting at University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on mid of June, next month. They would attend UMM invitation to join International Conference on Strengthening the Moslem Community in the Southeast Asia Region toward ASEAN Community 2015.
Chief of Committee, Ahsanul In’am, PhD explained the agenda was a result of discussion between UMM Postgraduate Program with its partners in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore certain time ago.
“We agree that as the largest community in ASEAN, Moslem take strategic position in various aspects, such as social, political, and economic. Toward ASEAN Community 2012, we have to strengthen networking go in the direction of ASEAN Moslem community,” stated In’am, the Head of Master Program of MKPP UMM.
The agenda would take place from June 14-16, 2012. The main topic of discussion was about social and humanities, human right and religion, economy and business along with science and technology. The meeting was going to be organized by plenary conference, general lectures, and presentation from participant who send document that had been decided before. Representative from ASEAN countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Brunei, and Timor Leste had confirmed their presence.
“Based on planning, the conference will be opened by ASEAN General Secretary and the keynote speakers are the Head of PP Muhammadiyah Din Syamsuddin, the former Vice President of Republic Indonesia Jusuf Kalla, and Azyumardi Azra,” stated In’am.
Up to now, the committee had opened registration call for papers that could be written in bahasa Indonesia, Malay, Arabic even in English. The topic was decided by the committee and it could be written based on writer’s scientific knowledge perspective. Document could be sent to panconfrence@umm.ac.id.
In’am explained, joint committee had been organized. It involved some experts from various countries. They were Prof. Dr. Datuk Wira Abdul Latieff Abubakar (University of Sultan Idris Education, Malaysia), Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin (UMM), Prof. Dr. Ishomuddin (UMM), Prof. Dr. Tobroni (UMM), Abdul Hafiz Hiley, M.Ed (Lukmanulhakeem Foundation, Yala Thailand), Prof. Sharief Mohsin Jollabe (Liga Ulama, Philippines), Shaik Hussain Shaik Yacob (Muhammadiyah Singapore), Prof. Madya Dr. Sharifah Haayati Syed Ismail (Malaya University, Malaysia), Prof. Madya. Dr. Mohammad Zaid Musa (University of Pnom Penh, Cambodia), Prof. Madya. Dr. Raianah Abdullah (Center for Civilizational Dialogue UM, Malaysia), and Prof. Madya.
