Launching of Stand Up Comedy Community of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Thursday night (5/10) was greatly successful. The lanching was attended by 10 UMM comic (term for performer) students, three non-UMM comic students and two comic lecturers. More than 480 audiences fulfilled the hall of BAU which could only hold 200 seats. Consequently, there were more audiences who stood than sit. They watched through the glass of the window outside the hall room.
Yulyani Kasih, student of Islamic Studies Master Program of UMM, who was now becoming comic at Stand Up Comedy of Kompas TV, admitted that she never thought there would be so many audiences. She believed this was the most successful Open Mic (term for performance). “Usually, there are no no many audiences like this at cafes. So, it’s wonderful,” said she after performing a fresh comedy.
In addition, performance of the two lecturers made the audiences curious. Sugeng Winarno, Communication Studies lecturer, who was appointed by the community as the guide successfully made them laugh out loud including Vice Rector III, Dr. Diah Karmiati, M.Si. The full criticism jokes became fresher after continued by Nasrullah, another Communication Studies comic lecturer.
“The event is not only attended by Vice Rector PR III and Chief of Public Relations, but also President and Vice President in pictures,” said Sugeng looking to the right and left towards photos of President and the Vice President. “I'm sure, if SBY participated the Stand Up, he would be very funny and got a comment from Indro Warkop ‘The gas Stove’.”
Nasrullah also commented on the popularity of SBY compared to Julia Perez (Jupe), an artist. Both were related to Pacitan. SBY was born in the small city while Jupe was a regent candidate there. Nasrullah said that Jupe was more successful than SBY. “Jupe succeeded to raise the image of Pacitan in term of tourism when she promised to introduce tourism potentials of Pacitan to mass media. Then media asked whether Pacitan had tourism destinations. The question led the media report the city. Perhaps SBY is tired. He has no time to think about Pacitan”.
One by one, comic performed amazing the audiences and made them sit still. The audiences awaited until the last minutes.
The Vice Rector III was very happy with the community. She said making jokes was an important relaxation among lecture routines and leanings. “Through Stand Up Comedy, students can rise their creativities, but they must keep being idealist,” advised the Vice Rector III after inaugurating the community.
Nasrullah said he had contacted producer of Stand Up Comedy of Metro TV telling that UMM would be ready to be the host of Stand Up Comedy road show. He was sure with enthusiasm from the students and the youth of Malang on the community, the road show would be successful. (uci/nas/t_alf)
