Tradition of celebrating National Education Day (Hardiknas) at University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) had continued. As Hardiknas which done today (5/2), UMM celebrated it by managing a ceremony in Helipad. Whole lecturers, employees, student functionary, and students from PGSD took part in the process. Performing as inspector of ceremony, Vice Rector II Drs. M. Fauzan, M.Pd while the commandant, Vice Dean III Faculty of Engineering Ir. Alik Anshori, MT.
Delivering his speech, Fauzan stated, education was a process of humanizing mankind. For him, mature did not mean old but having maturity of thought and having a strong character to develop community. “As a person who involved in educational field, we must pay attention on educational process to humanize person become more humane,” he said.
As in previous years, Hardiknas was a momentum used to reward academicians. The award was handed over by Vice Rector II to students, employees, chiefs of department, and lecturers who got the achievement. “This is a kind of university appreciation given to UMM academicians who are successful in their teaching-learning, research, and community service,” stated Fauzan.
Selection process for the award had been run since March. The outstanding students were selected by Student Affairs Bureau. The selection involved academic achievement, scientific writing, activity in several organizations, and discipline. Meanwhile, the outstanding employees were selected by Human Resource Development Board (BPSDM) through a series of rigorous tests by a team. In addition, lecturers and chiefs of department were selected by Academic Quality Control Board (BKMA). For those who selected in faculty level were given an opportunity to join in training and Focus Group Discussion to present the advantage of each.
“We measure lecturers and chiefs of department selection based on the stipulation of Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud). It is done because the one who selected will be followed into competition in Kopertis and even national level,” explained the Head of BKMA, Prof. Wahyu Widodo, MS.
For those who got the achievement, Hardiknas was a blessing for them. Beside they were awarded by a trophy and certificate in front of the audience, they also got cash money and even facility to do comparative study outside region. But, Soleh had another point of view. According to him, the main thing was maintaining his responsibility as UMM employee.
“Anyone is able to achieve this, the important thing is our responsibility. Awarded this achievement, all people will of course take a look at us,” disclosed Soleh, the Head of Transportation in Equipment Division of UMM.
Here, the names who were awarded by UMM Rector in Hardiknas 2012. The outstanding students were; first, David John Charles (Accounting-FEB); second, Atika Caesarini (FK); third, Amalia Rakhman (Biology-FTTE); fourth, Yannika Nidia Sari (Mathematics-FTTE), and fifth, Ikrima Khaerunnisa (Pharmacy-Faculty of Health Science).
Furthermore, the outstanding employees were M. Cholis (Faculty of Islamic Studies), Nur Syamsiah (Financial Bureau), H. Soleh (Equipment Division), and Annisa (Student Affairs). Meanwhile, the best chiefs of department were Dr. Tri Sulisyatingsih (Governmental Studies); Sri Dwihastuti, SP, M. Aqua (Fishery), and Dra. Juli Astuti, MSi (Social Welfare). In addition, the excellent lecturers were Prof. Dr. Rahayu Hartini, SH, MSi (Law Faculty), Dr. Ir. Aris Winaya, MM, MSi (Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Faculty), and Dr. Nurul Zuriah, MSi (FTTE).
