Again, Divisi Mahasiswa Pecinta Alam (DIMPA), a nature lover organization of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) celebrated the Earth Day.

Different from the previous years, April 22 was celebrated by a campaign to love earth entitled "Resolution". It was held on a bridge in front of GKB I UMM, Monday (4/23). Last year, Dimpa celebrated it by Car Free Day action.

In addition, a miniature of globe was placed on the bridge. Lecturers and students who passed through the bridged were asked to write their expectation on the Earth Day. They wrote “I Love My Earth”, “Let's Stop Smoking”, etc. However, there was also one who expressed exasperation by writing “My Earth Becomes Increasingly Hotter”.

“The event is intended to collect expectation and hope of students on the continuity of our beloved earth” said the event coordinator, Ani Marinka.

It was opened by Chief of Student Affairs Bureau, Atok Miftachul Huda. He appreciated much on the event because he believed on the famous Indonesia as a land of paradise. “Thus, as the next generation we must keep the preservation of the earth for our children,” said Atok.

Furthermore, Atok also stated that we should not just talk without any action. “Bring the vision and mission to not only academic community , but also public outside. Save the earth,“ he expressed.

Ani was happy to organize the event. It was also welcomed enthusiastically by students. She hoped it would waken them to love more on the earth.

“It is a simple idea. We just facilitate the event because we know that students are the agents of change. Later, we would like to socialize the idea to the society. We expect they would always aware to maintain the continuity of our earth.” All the writings would be put on the globe and displayed on the bridge of GKB I until April 25. (nov/nas/t_alf)
