In the future, University of Muhammadiyah Riau (UMRI) wants to be like University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The still-young campus builds its dream to grow faster by cooperating with UMM. “Islam should have big campuses like UMM. Thus, it is very necessary to build UMRI as UMM,” said Rector of UMRI, Prof. Dr. H. Mohammad Diah. Z., M. Ed, when visiting UMM on Monday (4/23).
The visit from UMRI to UMM was intended to finalize the cooperation between them. Both signed three cooperation documents: cooperation with Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), with International Relations Bureau (BKLN) and with UMM.
The visit was welcomed by the UMM Rector, Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP accompanied by the Dean of FISIP and a number of bureau chiefs. Although UMRI is not under UMM coaching, Muhadjir appreciated well on the initiative from UMRI. UMM is a coach for Muhammadiyah universities of eastern Indonesia. Meanwhile, UMRI is on the western part of Indonesia.
Moreover, the cooperation built with FISIP wa intended more to develop Department of Communication Studies in the form of moving class. “We expect the developed program of Communication Studies at UMM would transmit the same success to UMRI. Thus, UMRI would be able to produce competent graduates. Through the cooperation, we ask for support and assistance from UMM based on procedure and right 'corridor' as well as for success sharing with our will-be-built faculty,” said the UMRI Rector.
Aside from signing MoU, team from UMRI also took time to go around UMM to search for information and to learn the management. “Even though we have implemented Student Centered Learning (SCL) with curriculum which directs students to be initiator and practitioner based on their disciplines, but we also need to learn and search for information related to management which has delivered UMM to be such big university” said Vice Rector II of UMRI, Dr. Ir. Agustedi, M.Si.
UMRI which has just come to its fourth year expects to develop and grow based on society's demand in producing generation embedded with character, honor and dignity. (nov/nas/t_alf)
