What's the matter when a student of Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI) becomes a commedian? Both her friends and her family never thought that Yulyani Kasih Doaussholiha would make an achievement on national event. She became a finalist of Stand Up Commedy Competition held by Kompas TV in Jakarta. Comic Yuli, her famous name, succeeded becoming one of big 13 finalists after passing audition from various regions. She set aside around 500 commedian candidates.
Alumnus of Tarbiyah Department of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) who was studying at Master Program of Islamic Studies at the same campus also did not thought that she would plunge into commedian world. “Initially I was just a stand up comedy lover. I attended events held by stand up comedy community in Malang,” she said. Instead of trying to make audience laugh, Yuli made a humor material and showed off in front of them.
Supported by her friends, the girl from Kabupaten Pasir Kalimantan Timur has become a commedian. She appeared on every Saturday night at 8 pm on Kompas TV. However, she must pass through hard days since she had to explore issues for her fresh jokes. In addition, every Monday to Wednesday, Yuli participated a quarantine in Jakarta.
“Creating a monologue commedy material is not easy but making people laugh and forget their problems for a while is a pride for me,” said the 24 year-old girl. Under the coaching of commedy instructor, Yuli also could meet famouls commedians such as Indro Warkop, Raditya Dika, Panji Pragiwo, Becky Tumewu and Virni Ismail.
“I got a lot of experiences during quarantine process. There were many lessons I could not get from school,” said the fans of Jim Carrey.
Aside from her performance on every Saturday, she also appeared on Diary session on the same day at 17.30. “It is not a popularity event through sms. This activist of Ikatan Mahasiswa Muhammadiyah (IMM) also has decided to wear jilbab although of being widely known through TV screen. For her, life principle must be retained. Her choice in commedy is also a haviing-carefully-considered decision. “Life is full of not only choices, but also surprises,” she concluded. (ren/nas/t_alf)
