SEMU Consolidation from Indonesia-wide Scale PTMs Presents Three Figures

Yusril Ihza Mahendra explains three factors of Indonesian spirit.

National seminar and consolidation of student legislature from Perguruan Tinggi Muhammadiyah (PTM) of Indonesia-wide scale too place at University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Saturday (4/7). No less that 250 students from all PTMs throughout Indonesia attended the event which was entitled “Constitution and Alignments of Student Legislature of Indonesia".
 

Three figures were successful to be presented on the event coordinated by University Student Senate/Senat Mahasiswa Universitas (SEMU) of UMM ini. There were Vice Chairman of MPR, Drs. Hajrianto Y Thohari, MA; Expert on State Constitutional Law, Prof. Dr. Yusril Ihza Mahendra. S. H and Professor of Faculty of Law UMM, Prof. Dr Rahayu Hartini, S.H., M. Si., M. Hum. The event was opened by Vice Rector III, Drs. Joko Widodo, M.Si.
 

 “I expect students will get enligthenment from the event. Young generation must help to create change for the better nation,” said Joko.
 

He added as a charitable effort of Muhammadiyah, UMM continues to give its best contribution for this nation through its graduates. Thus, the event was expected to help building social network among PTMs throughout Indonesia.
 

In addition, Rahayu Hartini, delivered roles of academicians in escorting law supremacy. She stated that if a nation embraces law state concept, law must be taken as the commander in national and political lifes. “Law in Indonesia has not been escorted by the government. It is an imbalance to consider,” she said.
 

Furthermore, Rahayu explained elegant law enforcement is done with wtrong commitment to legality principle and presumption of innocence as well as equality in law. The implementation also must be in line and balance between legal certainty and legal justice as well as consideration on principles of human rights.
 

 “Academicians have very strategic roles in escorting law supremacy through intellectual movement using iqra’  tradition: reading, studying and discussion and writing,” she added.
 

Meanwhile, Hajrianto Y Thohari, also agreed on keyword in good governance is law enforcement and legislation products. Thohari said that it is now important to have institutional and public management reforms in order to realize good governance.
 

“Besides, planting and strengthening of governance values are very important for legislature and government officials, civil society, as well as private parties for effective and efficient governance,” said Hajriyanto who is also figure in Muhammadiyah.
 

Good governance requires understanding and implementation of national identity and personality summarized in four main pillars of national and state lifes. Those four pillars are Pancasila, UUD RI 1945, NKRI and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. “They guide each nation's element in performing duties,” explained Hajriyanto.
 

Meanwhile, Yusril presented on the last session. He stated there are three factors of Indonesian spirit: religion, language and imperialist. Those factors rose something remarkable under the Japanese and Dutch' s colonizations.
 

“However, Indonesian law does not represent Dutch. Today, foreign parties are easier in taking control over natural resources in SDA Indonesia. Dutch's contibutions were large but now it is easier than tens years ago,” said Yusril. (nov/nas/t_alf)
