Directorate of Post-graduate Program of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has two Psychology study programs, Master of Psychological Science and Master of Professional Psychology. Both of them are flagship programs since there are only few such-like programs in Indonesia. So far, there are only 12 Master of Professional Psychology Study Programs in Indonesia.
“Psychological Science has been accredited B. There have been no A in Indonesia. So, it is an achievement because we can obtain it in a short time,” said Chief of Psychology Study Program, Dr. Diah Karmiati.
Different from another UMM Master Programs which are located on Jl. Bandung, Campus I UMM, Psychology Master Program is centralized on Jalan Tlogomas, Campus III. The classrooms are located on ICT Center near GKB I UMM.
Master of Psychological Science learns more on science of psychology, continuing materials of undergrad level. The graduates would be scientist with a title M.Si. “Meanwhile, Professional Psychology focuses more on deepening materials of psychoteraphy techniques. Students are expected to be professional psychologists,” explained Diah. They do more practices.
Professional Psychology Master Program must maintain cooperation with institutions which need psychological services such as hospitals, social institutions and inclusive schools. “We have had a lot of cooperations,” added the former Dean of Faculty of Psychology. (ren/nas/t_alf)
