Vice Minister of Education and Culture (Wamendikbud), Prof. Dr. Musliar Karim, did unannouced visit to University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Saturday morning (3/31). Accompanied by Coordinator of Kopertis VII, Prof. Dr. Sugijanto, Apt, Wamen admitted that it was his first visit. He was very impressed. He even asked his staff to take his picture using campus and students background of UMM several times.
“When I visisted UMY, I have been impressed with the Muhammadiyah campus. However, I also have heard that UMM has a better campus than UMY. It made me curious. Then it's true. I'm really impressed watching this campus” said the former rector of Andalas University of Padang.
Meanwhile, Rector of UMM, Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP, used this short visit to ask Wamen going to Micro-Hydro Generator (PLTMH) in Agrocomplex of UMM. Wamen also watched animal cage in which the waste is managed into biogas energy. PLTMH UMM is also the only micro-hydro generator built in campus in Indonesia. The unit is able to produce electricity up to 100 kwh.
Rector also invited Wamen to see students who participated the opening ceremony of Rektor Cup 2012 in UMM Dome. In front of the students, Wamen expressed his impression on UMM which is interested by public. Thus, UMM could filter out excellent students.
“As a former rector of a state university, I would like to provoke state universities, telling that private university like UMM could be more advanced. It's good for model to spur achievements,” said he.
Muhadjir stated, Wamen is a member of big family of Muhammadiyah. His present to UMM was an honor since he came even though he had a lot of activities.
After encouraging students, Wamen went to UMM hospital to see the construction. Musliar was impressed again. From the hospital, Wamen then continued to Batu to attend opening ceremony of Rakor Kopertis VII. (nast_alf)
