| Situation at the Vice Rector Election Meeting UMM 2012 |
Election of Vice Rector (PR) of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) lasted in short time. It was because most of the senate members made an agreement-based election (mufakat) in senate meeting room on Wednesday (3/21). The agreement on the candidates election would be submitted soon to Muhammadiyah Central Leadership to get approval.
Secretary of senate, Dr. Sulardi, SH, M.Hum, explained that the election process was started by recruiting candidates in faculty level. The result was there were 23 names for Vice Rector I, 22 names for Vice Rector II and 28 names of Vice Rector III. After the requirements were complete, the names were submitted to rector in order to be chosen three candidates for each position.
“Rector proposed to the senate nine names for the positions. Senate is in charge of sending those names to PP Muhammadiyah. Alhamdulillah, senate agree to submit all the candidates' names to PP Muhammadiyah without scoring through a voting,” said Sulardi. Thus, the meeting lasted quicker that it had been predicted.
Those nine names: Dr. Ir. Damat, MP (Dean of FPP), Prof. Dr. Ishomuddin, MSi (Chief of Doctoral Program) and Prof. Dr. Bambang Widagdo, MM (Director of DPPM) for candidates of Vice Rector I. Dr. Muslimin Machmud, M.Si (Secretary of Doctoral Program), Drs. Fauzan, M.Pd (Dean of FKIP) and Ir. Sudarman, MT (Dean of FT) as the candidates of Vice Rector II. Meanwhile, Drs. Athok Miftahulhuda, M.Pd (Chief of Student Affairs Bureau), Sidik Sunaryo, SH, M.Si (Dean of FH) and Dr. Dyah Karmiyati, M.Psi (Chief of Psychology Master Program) as the candidates of Vice Rector III.
“Those names have been listed in news event that we are going to send to PP Muhammadiyah on Monday(3/27),” said Sulardi. UMM is expected to have new vice rectors before April 2 because the date is the end period for the positions.
Vice Rector II, Drs. Mursidi, MM stated that the meeting lasted closely and amicably, characteristic of Muhammadiyah. All the process was transparent and it involved all the parties. “The proof is the senate chose agreement rather than voting,” he said.
The election of Vice Rector is a series of university leaders reform since Januari. Previously, PP Muhammadiyah has determined to extend the working period for Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP as the university rector until 2014. The decision which has been approved by the university senates was taken through thorough consideration from both internal and external aspects.
Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Prof. Dr. Din Syamsuddin, MA in a certain occasion said that UMM still needs the leadership of Muhadjir until 2014. It was similar to what was said by Chief of PP Muhammadiyah, Dr. Haedar Nashir and Chief of Higher Education Council of PP Muhammadiyah, Dr. Chairil Anwar.
According to Haedar, the most important thing in doing mandate of Muhammadiyah is maintaining the continuity as well as keeping moving forward. It is because UMM is a big university which becomes one of manifestations of Kyai Ahmad Dahlan's ideal.
“One hundred years ago, Kyai Dahlan expected Muhammadiyah to have a pretentious universiteit,” said Haedar. The ideal was a big deal since there were no universities. It was even difficult to build an elementary school. UMM is the relaization of the dream. (nas/t_alf)
