Communication Students Association/Himpunan Mahasiswa Komunikasi (HImakom) of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) organized a seminar and became a host for Nirmana Award 2012 roadshow on Thursday (3/15). This graphic design award for young people was campaigned in several cities of Java and Bali and ended at UMM.
Himakom co-operated with management of gantibaju.com which initiated the award. The speakers were one of the committee of Nirmana Award, Aprianto Pinarso; founder of Furyco Design Studio, Panji Khrisna and Tulus R Pasaribu from Surya Palace, one of the oldest paper supplier in Indonesia.
Chief of the committee from Himakom, Arinda Hutamawari, admitted she was really happy of being succeeded organizing the prestitious event. “It indicates they admit us of having creative works and talents,” said student of cohort 2010.
The award is not only for competition, but also for giving insight and extending network for young Indonesian designers. According to Aprianto, design is close to our surrounding environment. “Design is a profession. We believe Indonesian works are unrivaled. We are looking for people who work in graphic design. We can change the world with design,” added Aprianto.
Nirmana Award was organized by Nirmana Committee, consisting of creative industrial actors, designer, professionals, design association (Indonesian Graphic Design Association, Indonesian Graphic Design Forum), advertising association (Art Directors Club) and PPPI, an ads company association in the field of marketing communication.
The works would be filtered by jury then decided for the winner. Previously, the works were taken for roadshow for two months before awarding.
The event was supported by Surya Palace. “We are one of paper companies which will support designers. The more you compete, the more you be creative. The quality will improve. It wil also give benefit to the Indonesians,” said Tulus R. Pasaribu. (bib/bib/t_alf)
