Academic Quality Assurance Bureau (BKMA) organized an improvement on instructional technique skill, Peningkatan Keterampilan Teknik Instruksional (Pekerti) for contemporary lecturers of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The event was held in the meeting room of the Faculty of Economics (FE), Monday (2/6). It was participated by 40 young lecturers.
The two-day event was opened by the Chief of BKMA, Prof. Dr. Wahyu Widodo, MS. Wahyu said the event was intended to prepare the active contemporary lecturers to be permanent lecturers and fill the vacancies at the UMM.
In addition, Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sujono, M. Kes, accompanied by Dr. M. Agus Krisno Budianto also stated an UMM lecturer must have good quality and be able to reflect and maintain a good image in society.
The Vice Rector I also said starting from 2012 UMM has changed procedure for contract lecturers. The change is on the qualification which is previously S1 to S2. “Today UMM requires post-graduate certificate to apply for temporary lecturer,” he said. There are ways to obtain S2 qualification for example joining Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
Moreover a lecturer must have Tri Darma Perguruan Tinggi (three duties of higher education): education, research/development and community service. In terms of research, a lecturer might use assisstance from DP2M to fund his research.
“It is great since UMM has been able to facilitate all contemporary lecturers to be quality ones. It now depends on the lecturers themselves whether they want to take the advantage or not,” added the Vice Rector I.
As resource Agus Krisno also uttered UMM lecturer must have at least Pekerti certificate which is later used to raise the work standard. Agus also expected the young lecturers to write books on their disciplines.
“If it is not started now, it will be difficult to realize. Since you are still young, use your time well,” Agus suggested. (nov/nas/t_alf)
