A number of student intra-organization at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) ranging from SEMU, BEMU, SEFA, BEMFA, and UKM gathered at an event of organizational dissemination for student intra-organization and training on public relation and protocol. It occured on January 27-29 2012 in the basement of UMM Dome. The three-day event was entitled “Building Holistic Intelligence of Muhammadiyah University Students".
UMM Rector, Muhadjir Effendy, emphasized an organization cannot just stand without any vision and missions. A functionary must know the vision and visions of his/her organization. An organization also must be in line with the changing era by doing new innovations. The student intra-organizations are expected to facilitate students in exploring their skills by maintaining network with public and private universities as well.
“A functionary is expected to have added values aside from academic achievements. A functionary also has a responsibility to be a role model,” said Muhadjir.
The Chief of Student Affairs, Drs. Atok M. Hudha, M.Pd, stated the event was inspired by the student activities. “Students have to consider about meaning and holistic intelligence in organizing events,” he expected.
The event was not only held for gathering but also for discussing issues of organization. One of them is media relations.
Media relations is very important for publication since the publication is closely related to an event. Barometer of successful event is the number of publication in mass media.
“Make media relations as one of responsibilities in organizing an event. If there is a mass media which reports the event, we have succeeded in conveying the importance of our event,” said Nasrullah, a resource.
The closing activity of the event was an outbond in the forms of rafting in Beji, Batu City. (nov/nas/t_alf)
