Performing two of themselves, Putri and Bayu, as the vocalist and acoustic guitarist, those young talented musicians performed at Fun Fair held by the UMM Economic and Business Faculty at the parking lot, Saturday (10/29).
Putri was a student of UMM Management department for master degree. She, with Bayu, had just come back from her musical tour in England. It was at 30 café for four months in London, Manchester, Brighton, Bristol, Edinburgh, Liverpool, and York.
At the stage, they performed their own song arrangement. All songs were in English. The UMM Vice Rector I Prof Dr Sujono M.Kes and FEB Dean Dr Nazaruddin MSi were there with the audiences. They enjoyed the first song ‘In Curiousity’.
When they sang another song ‘I Believe’, the students enjoyed it. They were inspired that there would be any chances for them to be successful. The lyrics hypnotized them to keep being optimistic and self-confident. They were also entertained with the Knee and Toes pop country song titled Life is Playground.
The duo ended their performance when the audience started to expect more. Putri and Bayu, together with the audience, sang Happy Birthday for UMM FEB.
Some of the audiences asked the duo to sing their songs again. They requested ‘Wish’ atau ‘Your Way’ which they got from www.kneeandtoes.com. Because the event had to keep the schedule, Putri promised that she would sing again next time.
Modern Acoustic
“This is our first performace after our four months musical tour in England," said Putri. The girl, with Bayu, learnt and got many music experience while they were in England. They learnt as the Beatles did on they first career.
“That is our reason why as the acoustic musician, we did not choose Spain to learn. We prefer England because we want to blend the classic acoustic instruments with the modern electric music," explained Putri.
Knee and Toes was formed on May 2010. “On October 2009, Putri was a solo singer. She plays guitar and keyboard, has an amazing voice, and is talented to arrange songs. She asked me to join her. And I took that chance," said Bayu. They blended the nylon guitar with the steel guiatr, and used some other sound effects.
When they were asked why they used ‘Knee and Toes’ as their duo name, Putri replied that she was inspired by a kids song ‘Head, Shoulder, Knees and Toes’. Knee and Toes released their mini album ‘A Journey’ and was enthuastically welcomed by foreign tourists at some cafe at Kuta, Denpasar, Bali on September 2010.
Their mini album, then, was introduced by their colleagues in England, Germany, Slovenia, US, and Australia. You might visit Knee and Toes site on www.kneeandtoes.com.
