The UMM Pesmaba (Pengenalan Studi Mahasiswa Baru) officially would be opened tomorrow (8/20). It would be started by an opening ceremony at the UMM Hallypad. The Malang Provost Peni Suparto would lead it, which was joined by 5.924 Indonesian students, 9 Australian students, and 10 students fromThailand.

The UMM Vice Rector III Joko Widodo explained that Pesmaba lasted for 3 days. It was started on 7 AM and closed by having fasting break together in each faculty. “It is educative, recreative, and motivative event," said Joko.

After the opening ceremony, it was continued by General Lecture by the former Indonesian Education Minister Prof. HA Malik Fadjar at the UMM Dome. Malik motivated those new students to get ready to compete in global era and build the strong character as the UMM students.

Then, it was continued by another Pesmaba event in each faculty. It all depended on the faculty to make it as varied as they planned. "Each faculty has its uniqueness in handling it. And the university team will keep monitoring them," said the Chief Committee, Abdullah Masmuh.

Meanwhile, the closing ceremony would be attended by Prof. Din Syamsuddin at the UMM Dome. Din would also speech on a General Lecture to the new students.

Masmuh stated that the opening ceremony would be enlivened by a plane which brought a banner "Pesmaba UMM 2011". There would be 1000 balloons releasing as the sign of opening the ceremony. (nas/t_ris)
