Chairman of Higher Education Council (Dikti) of PP Muhammadiyah, Dr. Chairil Anwar

Chief of Higher Education Council (Dikti) of PP Muhammadiyah, Dr. Chairil Anwar said that the perception on seeing Private Universities (PTSs) as a second choice has faded. This was at least proved that the quality of Muhammadiyah Universities (PTMs) has exceeded the State Universities (PTNs). According to Chairil, PTS could be possible better than PTN.

The example is the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). Chairil said that it is no doubt that UMM is more excellent that PTN. He said this before the Deans, Vice Deans and Chief of Departments at UMM, Saturday (06/25), in BAU Hall.

According to Chairil, the public mindset will gradually shift if we can prove that the private is not always bad. He gave an example that in the United States, the high-class campuses belongs to private parties. The world's best universities, Harvard University and Massachusset Institute of Technology, are private universities. "Now, people seek for quality than public or private status," said Chairil, who is also lecturer of the University of Gajah Mada.

Furthermore, Chairil believed that strengthening human resource is a priority in order to build the quality of a university. Universities must have strong human resources in order to serve the interests of students. He reminded that since the early history of Muhammadiyah, it has been designed to build human resources through education. KH Ahmad Dahlan, said Chairil, purposely built education in his early dakwah to prepare the human resource.

UMM Rector, Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP added that as PTM UMM has been recognized internationally through QS Star World University Ranking. UMM obtained Two Stars award, one among 18 PTSs and PTNs in Indonesia which also obtained the star awards from QS. (nas/t_alf)
