Community Empowerment Council (MPM) of Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP Muhammadiyah) will organize a big event. The council which concerns on community empowerment will hold a national work meeting (Rakernas) as well as community dialogue for three days, starting on Saturday (05/21) on the campus of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).
Chairman of MPM of PP Muhammadiyah, Said Tuhuleley, confirmed that the event would be attended by among others Minister of Environment, Gusti Muhammad Hatta; General Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Din Syamsuddin; Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah, Bambang Sudibyo; Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Hari Priono, Chairman of KPK, Busyro Muqoddas; and cultural expert, Emha Ainun Najib .
"Minister of Environment will give a keynote speech on climate change and its impact on people's lives," said Said.
Said added that the Rakernas would be followed by the entire council chairman of regional MPM in Indonesia. In addition, the event would also be attended by other related assemblies and LPM throughout Muhammadiyah Universities in Indonesia. Agriculture and animal husbandry experts and community empowerment consultants are also invited to contribute on thoughts about the next step in community empowerment.
The issues brought to the work program would be discussed by committees, namely organization and partnerships, development of integrated farming and processing, empowerment of poor urban people and advocacy.
"Since the beginning, Muhammadiyah is very concerned with the theology of al-Maun which protects the weaks. This time, a concrete step for a period of the next five years will be formulated," said the local committee chairman Prof. Jabal Tarik Ibrahim.
The community dialogue forum would take place in two panel forums. The first panel’s topic is “Building People's Farming and Fishing amid Uncertainty” with resource person Dr. Sudirman Saad; Director General of KPPK Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries Affairs, Prof. Dr. M. Maksum (PBNU); and Prof. Dr. Ali Agus. Meanwhile, the second panel would present Dr. Busyro Muqoddas and Emha Ainun Najib.
On the sidelines of the Rakernas and community dialogue, MPM also would hold a small exhibition displaying a variety of products of MPM assistance at all levels as well as documentation of MPM. (jks/nas/t_alf)
