| Education Day Ceremony at UMM is followed by the entire academic community. |
National Education Day (Hardiknas) Ceremony at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held in Helipad UMM, Monday (05/02), took place in solemn. More than 700 lecturers and staffs, and 200 student functionaries attended the ceremony which was started at 7:15 until 8:00 a.m.
Because the Rector was in Europe and the Vice Rector I was doing umra, the superintendent of the ceremony was entrusted to the Vice Rector II, Mursidi. He stated that the Hardiknas commemoration in the UMM has become an annual tradition. Within a year, UMM holds a flag ceremony twice; the Education and Independence Day. "This is a form of nationalism owned by the UMM academic community. At each ceremony like this, we are reminded again to give thanks to God, the heroes, and to pray for them obtaining the reward worth it," said Mursidi.
As a private university under the auspices of the Muhammadiyah, continued Mursidi, UMM interprets any national commemoration momentum as a motivation to work better. However, UMM should keep having excellence and become the most excellent campus. "The excellence must be reflected in our character. For us, good means having noble character. So, our services in the field of education must be aimed to build a good character. Each course should be given a content of character excellence, not just the science and practical courses," he continued.
Mursidi also mentioned about the rampant fraud and recruitment issue in which the activity is invited people to follow a specific group that is not in tune with the Muhammadiyah movement. The hardiknas commemoration was the proof that the UMM always upholds nationalism and rejects radical deviations. "Let us close the ranks to fortify our students and families from the negative influences that are inconsistent with the mission of preaching kindness of amar ma’ruf nahi munkar," he said.
In the middle of the ceremony, the Vice Rector II accompanied by the Vice Rector III bestowed the award for the achievers. As reported, to encourage and motivate the academic community, UMM annually bestows awards for lecturer, department chief, staff and student achievers. The result came from a rigorous selection. The student achievers are selected by the Bureau of Student Affairs, the lecturer and department chief achievers are selected by the Academic Quality Control Board (BKMA), and the staffs are selected by the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) UMM.
This year, the selected five students were Nina Septi Wardani (Fikes), Muhammad bin Abdul Manan (FISIP), Robby Wahyu Fahlevi (FPP), Rafika Rabba Farah (FTTE) and Fitra Al-Munawir (FE). Meanwhile, the staff achievers were Suripto (DPPM unit), Rahmad Setyobudi (Security), Bakhtiar Effendi (Library) and Dra. Amny Mujiastuti (Finance Bureau). In addition, the lecturer achievers were Prof. Dr. Ir. Indah Prihatiningsih, MP (Faculty of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry), Dr. Hartini Rahayu, SH, MH (Law Faculty) and Dr. Rr. Eko Susetyorini, M. Kes (FTTE), while the department staff achievers were Dra. Frida Kusumastuti, M.Si (Communication Studies), Dr. Tri Sulistyaningsih, M.Si (Governmental Science), and Dra. Mursidi stated that they were given awards and rewards. Additionally, achievers among them would represent UMM to compete at Kopertis VII level and national level. "Every year we always have a delegation to participate in the competition at national level. Hopefully, we will also have it for this year," expected Mursidi. Through the competition, UMM again wants to show of being a feasible university.
In addition to obtaining the certificate, the achievers also obtained a number of incentive funds. Especially, the staff achievers would get an opportunity to have comparative study to several universities or relevant institutions in the capital city of Indonesia or outside of Java.
