Some students-would-be from Malaysia were interested in joining UMM as their university. About 200 Malaysian would enroll to Pharmacy department and Medical department.

The Assistant Rector of Foreign Cooperation, Soeparto, made sure that the Malaysian demand been delivered to his part. In his opinion, it gave advantages to UMM, but it should be considered carefully because the quota for the Medical students was limited. UMM, still, would give priority to the Indonesian than foreign students.

“For Medical department, the Rector still gives priority to the Indonesian students. So, we may welcome them for other departments for now, not for Medical department. And, 200 is a big number," said Soeparto. Even Malaysia could pay three times than the Indonesian students, UMM could not accept it yet.

Malaysia was not the only one cooperating with UMM, but also Dubai. University of Midle East Dubai would send about 50 diploma of Health department students to continue their study at UMM Health department for Bachelor degree. They would study next semester. For next time, the students from Dubai would not only enroll the Health department, but also Informatics; Language; Social Science; and Master degree.

“It is being negotiated that there will be any chance for them to have double degree. The Dubai students can study here, and so do the UMM students," said Soeparto, who would go to Malaysia and Dubai to follow the cooperation up.

So, there would be some foreign students at UMM for 2011/2012. As it had been reported, there were 10 Singaporean students enrolled to UMM Master program, 12 Thailand students, 6 Australian students, and 33 students from the US. And so did Timor Leste, which always sent its students annually to study at Malang. (nas/t_ris)
