Center for Social and Political Studies (PKSP), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) hosted a workshop on writing scientific journal at UMM Inn, Thursday (10/21). The workshop was intended to strengthen the quality of the writing as well as the management of scientific periodical publishing based on national quality standard and governance.
Chief executive, Arief Hidayatullah, S. Ikom, said that this event was a series of programs organized by Directorate General of Higher Education in various regions. FISIP UMM had the opportunity of becoming the host for it has potency to develop better scientific journals.
The event was followed by all the lecturers of FISIP UMM and outside participants consisting of managers of academic journals in Malang campuses. The involvement of the journal management outside UMM, said Arief, was in order to share their writing with journals owned by FISIP UMM later. "At least 60% of our journal writing should come from outside the Faculty of Social and Political Science, so its value will be higher," said Arief.
The Dean of FISIP, Dr. Wahyudi, hoped this workshop will reinforce the existence of scientific journals of his faculty. Previously, FISIP had a journal called Interest in which then it changed into Publika. Currently, the journal of FISIP will be designed to become Jurnal Sospol.
"Journal is a kind of fardhu 'ain (a must) to be owned, entered and maintained by the academic community. Without journal, it is the same as not becoming academic community. It is not only to seek credit points, but it should be one part of the academic soul," Wahyudi said.
The workshop was filled by experts of management and journal writing. They were Dr. H. Harun Joko Prayitno, SE, M.Hum and Myrtati Dyah Artaria, MA, PhD. (nas/t_alf)
