Rusunawa UMM, the Best 2nd Best of National Level

The Minister of Public Housing, Suharso Monoarfa, accompaniedby Rector Muhadjir Effendy and the Chief of Excecutive Board (BPH) UMM, Prof. HA. Malik Fadjar several times ago at Rusunawa.

           Simple Rental Flats (Rusunawa) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) won a national level achievement. UMM student rental occupancy was stated as the 2nd best hostel in Indonesia through the Ministry of public Housing.

           The Rector, Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP accompanied by Vice Rector III, Drs. Joko Widodo, M.Si, Wednesday (9/22), received The Second Class of Adiupaya Puritama Award deliveredby Menpera RI, Suharso Monoarfa in Jakarta. For Rusunawa UMM which was just two years old, the awadr was a great achievement.

           Joko said, the achievement was because of good management of Rusunawa from design, management of financial administration and student guidance aspects. "Another important thing isthe level of Rusunawa attraction Rusunawa so that it triggershigh interest of students to live there," said Joko.

           Rusunawa I UMM consists of two blocks. Each block consists of four floors. The building built by Kemenpera in 2007, this year it has entered its second year as female student rental housing. In 2009 UMM also got one more unit, Rusunawa II, which was built not far from the location of Rusunawa I. It lays in the north of UMM stadium. "We plan Rusunawa II to be used for male and foreign students. InshaAllah, on the early next year it would be started being operationalized," said Joko.

           UMM is known of being firmly upholding mandate from government assistance. The Rector Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP, had stated that if the government helped to build at UMM, UMM would provide funding assistance to raise the quality of the building and would take care of it best. Besides, specifically for Rusunawa UMM also committed to add the benefit value.  It would be used not only for a shelter, but also for training means of students to get accustomed to living in vertical residence.

           The Minister of Public Housing who had visited Rusunawa last year also praised UMM management. According to him, it should be followed by Rusunawa managers other universities. "It is a very good concept. Hopefully, it can be replicated elsewhere," said Suharso Monoarfa. (nas/t_alf)
