Director of Ketenagaan Dirjen Dikti Kemendiknas, Prof. Dr. Muchlas Samani, M.Pd presented at the UMM graduation ceremony of 668 students on Saturday (2/27). Muchlas’s presence was associated with the scientific oration and first graduation of the Distance Education (PJJ) program of Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) at UMM.

UMM Rector, Muhadjir Effendy, said that PJJ PGSD is a government program entrusted to UMM. Throughout its journey so far, the implementation of this program has gone well. "We really have commitment to do our best on every mandate from anyone given to UMM," said Muhadjir.

In this period, a total number of 98 PGSD students were confirmed as UMM new graduates. Signing their graduation, the Director of Ketenagaan Dikti handed graduation signs to two representatives of PGSD graduates.

Muchlas said that the degree is not only being a pride. The beginning of entering the work world is a new life of exam; it is sometimes even crueler. Only who can learn independently, quickly and technology updated that could survive. "Today, the era of globalization requires nimble skill in technology since all now are using science and technology, for example e-learning, e-marketing, e-library and so forth," Muchlas said.

In his oration, Muchlas further mentioned soft skill development. Competence needed to be prepared in developing soft skill, he said, covers several aspects. First, the ability of critical thinking in solving problems. Second, communication ability, especially to convince others. Third, the ability to adapt. Fourth, the initiative and entrepreneurial thought. Fifth, the capability in analysis and manage information. Sixth, curiosity and imagination.

Muchlas also praised that Muhammadiyah could become a leader in the soft skill development because besides Muhammadiyah has many universities, it also has very extensive network. "For the next time in the future, the international experience should be improved. We must be competitive with those from overseas," Muchlas explained further.

On that occasion, the Rector also received a symbolic trophy of Anugerah Kampus Unggulan (AKU) or Campus Award of Excellence from Kopertis of Region VII. The award was awarded by the Kopertis Executive Secretary, Drs. IBM Martha, M.Si. This year is the third year for UMM keeping the award. (rka/nas/t_alf)
