UMM Medical Faculty Targets 100% of Young Physicians Can Pass Competency Test

              Medical Faculty/Fakultas Kedokteran (FK), University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), again held Inauguration and Oath of doctors, Force VI, Period II of Academic Year 2009/2010. The inauguration took place in the Hall of Medical Faculty UMM Campus II on Monday (1/25). A total of 26 new doctors took oath in front of Vice Rector I, Dean of Medical Faculty, parents and the hospital director. They were ready to serve and carry out the trust as doctors, although it has greater challenges ahead.

           The Dean of UMM Medical Faculty, dr. Irma Suswati, M.Kes said, a doctor has a binding promise to his/herself, society and God. Nobleness profession of doctor must touch the basic needs of society, namely health care. Absolute requirement of doctors are namely competence, able to establish good relationships, obeying professional ethics and balancing with faith and taqwa.

           "UMM Medical Faculty graduates must have high self-confidence to compete globally. There is no difference in public or private universities graduates, doctors in Indonesia are obliged to follow the competency test next February," she said. UMM readiness to re-acquire 100% graduation competency tests continued to be pursued. During a full month, they were prepared with various materials of medical tasks, such as interview; physical and mental examination, diagnosis, etc.

           The competency test is one of the requirements to obtain Certificate of Registry/Surat Tanda Register (STR). After that they would be allowed to open new medical practices. Irma said, all doctors in Indonesia should be tested in order to get STR.

           Not only that, Irma hoped, graduates should be able to establish good relationships with patients or between peers. Provisions which have been obtained required them to continue to develop. Training and learning of affective organization is really needed to add provisions and maturity to be a doctor. "There are still many responsibilities to find the vaccine for disease in Indonesia. Preventive action and rehabilitation must be carried out together with colleagues and in collaboration with stakeholders," he concluded.

           Meanwhile, Vice Rector I, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sudjono M.Kes expected graduates to obey the parents, that in fact the biological parent. He warned not to forget the alma mater, UMM, which has become the second parent. "Confidence must be owned by graduates. Later, they will have to work genuinely and sincerely. Like the light, it will never be tired illuminating its surroundings," he said.

           Vice Rector I also handed an award to dr. Nuryati who was crowned to be the best graduate with a GPA of 3.41. Meanwhile, the second best graduate was achieved by dr. Teguh Wahyudi with GPA of 3.39 and dr. Ramhiyah won the third best graduate with a GPA of 3.38. (rka/t_alf)
